Cool

Wow, what excellent posts! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll definitely check out all of the rides mentioned. A drummer can never have too many ride cymbals. Oh so many beautiful cymbals, so little time and money! Since I first posted back in December of 2003, I did end up buying an Istanbul ride cymbal. Yep, Rockin Rudy does indeed have good taste.

I have a 22" Constantinople light ride and I like it very much. I like having the wash because I can can always use a tiny piece of tape to calm it down. I think it has enough stick definition. I used to have nothing but 20" rides before until I heard this one. Had to have it.

I would love to have a Medium ride as well. Or two. I have also tried the Big Band Ride and it certainly had the "ping" and not so much wash. It was a bit too heavy for my taste.

I've tried the 24" Light Ride, and i must say; what a cymbal, But better suited for indie rock than Jazz IMO But some sound bad too, i a 22" light ride in a shop based in New York may sound different than a 22" light ride based in Chicago, each constantinople has unique charasteristics much more than an ordinary Zildjian cymbal.

A Cymbal you should check out is the Paiste Souncreation Ride's. You can only get them used now, but they were something special! My father is letting me use his Old 22" Dark Ride, and i'm loving it. Using it for everything at the moment!

I have a 22" Med-Thin High that leaves me speechless, it sounds so amazing! So complex and buttery. Like Tony with Miles. It's really best for acoustic jazz, though, as it gets lost underneath loud amps and such. I also have an older 20" Medium that I love too, and finally, 16" and 18" crashes that REALLY surprised me. These I can use in a pop or fusion context and they sound great! They have a very dry tone, but they speak clearly as their pitch is relatively high for their size. Highly recommended. But yeah, they are damned expensive...
